Early to mid-July is a good time to start planning for fall. Some fall crops can be planted as soon as late July and early August. Figure out what areas will be available to plant in. Get out your seeds and see what is useable. Start mapping things out and see if there are any seeds, bulbs, bushes, or trees you’d like to plant. Many flowers, bushes, and trees are actually best to plant in the fall, especially Oklahoma where you’re not guaranteed much of a spring.
Then decide what you need to start indoors like broccoli, kale, and lettuce. You might need to get them going right away! Plan out when you’ll clear and replant each area. Remember, don’t leave soil bare! Pull out the previous crops or weeds right before you plant the new crops. Be sure to have enough mulch on hand too.
