Cucumbers grow well on a trellis, but they can also grow along the ground like other melons. For a trellis, plant the seeds one to one and a half feet apart and one inch deep. Keep the soil surface wet until the plants come up, then mulch and water whenever the soil feels dry one inch under the surface. You may need to tie the vines to the trellis to hold them up. Pick them before they get over-ripe or they’ll turn bitter.
