Flower bulbs can be planted in late fall when the soil temperature is below 55 degrees Fahrenheit. They need to be planted in a hole about three times as deep as the bulb is tall with the pointed end up. Cover them in loose soil and plenty of mulch.

The roots will grow over the winter and they will come up in the spring. Water occasionally over the winter to keep them from drying out. A variety of different bulbs will give you blooms at different times to extend your flowering season. If you don’t harvest the blooms for bouquets, cut the heads off when they wilt. If you let them wither and produce seed, the plant will stop producing new blooms.
