Early May is a good time to put melons in the ground, whether starting from seed or plants. Melons need a soil temperature of 60-70 degrees to sprout. They like to grow in mounds to have good drainage and make it easier for their vines to spread. You can make one small mound for each plant or make larger mounds for multiple plants. Leave plenty of room for the vines to spread. They need plenty of water and be sure to mulch well!
